How we write our recipes
Parents should know where advice comes from. Here's exactly how our recipes are made and what every recipe is checked against.
Where our recipes come from
Each recipe is built from standard, well-established home-cooking ratios and techniques, written with the help of AI tools and reviewed against the standards below before it's published. We don't have a test kitchen, so cooking times can vary with your equipment, and we update recipes when readers tell us something didn't work.
Safety standards every recipe follows
- No honey in any recipe that could be served to babies under 12 months.
- No added table salt or sugar. Naturally salty ingredients such as cheese or store-bought dough are flagged, with lower-sodium options where possible.
- Choking-safe serving advice for each age, following CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics guidance. Whole nuts, whole grapes and popcorn are never used.
- Safe cooking temperatures for poultry (165°F / 74°C), ground meat (160°F / 71°C) and fish (145°F / 63°C), and eggs cooked until firm.
- Allergens listed on every recipe, with swaps for common allergies.

Photos
Step-by-step photos are AI-generated illustrations of each stage of the recipe. They show what to aim for, but your food may look different.
