  2. Step 2: Finely chopped spinach, diced red bell pepper and green onion on a wooden cutting board with a knife

    6Cool and serve

Cool 5 minutes, run a knife around the edges to release, and serve whole or halved.

How to serve by age

9โ€“12 months

Cut each muffin in half or into strips so your baby can grip it, and check that the egg is fully set with no runny center. Use a lower-sodium cheese such as Swiss or fresh mozzarella.

12โ€“24 months

Serve mini muffins whole or halved, with soft fruit or avocado on the side.

2โ€“3 years

Serve whole. Toddlers this age love helping drop the chopped veggies into the cups.

Allergy & diet swaps

Dairy-free
Leave out the cheese and use unsweetened plant milk. Add 1 tbsp nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor.
Egg allergy
This recipe can't be made without egg. Try our Cheesy Broccoli Bites with a flax egg for a similar veggie finger food.
Different veggies
Swap in finely chopped broccoli, zucchini, mushrooms or peas. Keep the pieces small so they soften as they bake.

Tips

  • Eggs must be cooked all the way through for babies and toddlers โ€” no runny centers.
  • Use any leftover cooked veggies: broccoli, zucchini, peas or mushrooms.

Questions parents ask

When can babies eat egg muffins?

From about 9 months, once egg has been introduced and your baby is eating soft finger foods. Bake them until the centers are completely set.

Can I freeze egg muffins?

Yes. Cool them completely, freeze on a tray, then store in a freezer bag for up to 2 months. Reheat for 20โ€“30 seconds in the microwave until hot all the way through.

Why did my egg muffins sink?

It's normal for them to puff in the oven and settle as they cool. Filling the cups only three-quarters full keeps them from overflowing and collapsing.

Can I use a regular muffin pan?

Yes. The mixture makes about 6 regular muffins. Bake for 20โ€“25 minutes, until the centers are set.
