Place the whole banana along one edge of the tortilla.
-

5Roll it up
Roll the tortilla snugly around the banana.
-

How to serve by age
9โ12 months
Best saved for after 12 months, since tortillas can be hard for new eaters to manage. Instead, offer a banana spear coated in a very thin layer of nut butter mixed with yogurt and rolled in ground oats for grip.
12โ24 months
Spread the nut or seed butter very thinly and cut each round in half.
2โ3 years
Serve whole rounds. Let your toddler spread, sprinkle and roll their own.
Allergy & diet swaps
- Nut-free
- Use sunflower seed butter. It's also the best choice for nut-free daycares and schools.
- Gluten-free
- Use a soft gluten-free tortilla, warmed so it rolls without cracking.
- No tortilla
- Roll a slice of soft bread flat with a rolling pin, trim the crusts and use it as the wrap.
Tips
- Never serve nut butter by the spoonful to toddlers โ always spread it thinly.
- Swap the tortilla for a flattened slice of bread with crusts removed.
- Dip the ends in mashed raspberries for a 'sushi roe' look.
Storage & safety
Storage: Best eaten fresh. Keeps 1 day in the fridge, wrapped tightly.
Suggested age: 12 months+. Every child is different โ serve textures and sizes that match your toddler's chewing skills.
Always seat your toddler upright and stay close while they eat. Cut round foods into small pieces and spread nut butters thinly. Read our toddler food safety guide for more.
Questions parents ask
Is peanut butter safe for toddlers?
Yes, when it's spread thinly. Thick globs and spoonfuls of nut butter are a choking risk, and whole peanuts shouldn't be given to young children.
Can I make banana sushi ahead?
It's best eaten within a few hours, before the banana starts to brown. Wrap the roll tightly and slice it just before serving.
Is banana sushi OK for a daycare snack?
Yes, if you use sunflower seed butter for nut-free classrooms. Pack it in a cold lunchbox and eat it the same day.
Does banana sushi have added sugar?
No. The ripe banana is the only sweetener. Choose a nut or seed butter with no added sugar or salt.
