How to serve by age

9–12 months

Shape into small logs your baby can hold in a fist, and bake until set but still soft.

12–24 months

Serve whole or halved, with plain yogurt or tomato sauce for dipping.

2–3 years

Serve whole as a snack or side. They also travel well in lunchboxes.

Allergy & diet swaps

Egg-free
Use a flax egg (1 tbsp ground flaxseed + 3 tbsp water) and add 1 extra tbsp of breadcrumbs.
Dairy-free
Replace the cheddar with 2 tbsp nutritional yeast plus 2 tbsp mashed white beans to help bind.
Gluten-free
Use oat flour made from certified gluten-free oats instead of breadcrumbs.

Tips

  • Squeeze out extra moisture from the broccoli for crispier bites.
  • Swap half the broccoli for cauliflower or grated zucchini.
  • Great cold in lunchboxes, too.

Questions parents ask

Can I use frozen broccoli?

Yes. Thaw it, squeeze out as much water as you can, then chop it finely.

How do I keep broccoli bites from falling apart?

Squeeze the broccoli dry and chill the mixture for 10 minutes before shaping. Let the baked bites cool on the tray for 5 minutes before moving them.

Are broccoli bites safe for babies?

Yes, from around 9 months, served soft and shaped as logs. Choose a milder, lower-sodium cheese for younger babies.

Can I make broccoli bites in an air fryer?

Yes. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
