Instructions

Add the banana and pitted dates.

    6Top and serve

How to serve by age

9โ€“12 months

Serve the smooth pudding on a preloaded spoon. For babies under 12 months you can leave out the dates and use a very ripe banana instead.

12โ€“24 months

Serve with a toddler spoon and top with finely diced strawberries.

2โ€“3 years

Let your toddler dip soft fruit strips, like banana or ripe pear, into the pudding.

Allergy & diet swaps

๐ŸŒพ Gluten-free: Gluten-free as written. Use pure unsweetened cocoa powder (not a hot chocolate mix) and pure vanilla extract, and check both labels.

Dairy-free
Use unsweetened soy or pea milk. The pudding is otherwise dairy-free.
Date-free
Leave out the dates and use an extra-ripe banana. The pudding will be a little less sweet.
Banana-free
Use 2 extra soft dates and 1โ€“2 tbsp more milk instead of the banana.

Tips

  • Make sure the avocado is fully ripe โ€” it should yield to gentle pressure.
  • Dates are a whole fruit, but for under-1s you can skip them and use a riper banana.
  • Freeze in popsicle molds for fudgesicles.

Storage & safety

Storage: Fridge: 2 days, covered tightly (press plastic wrap onto the surface).

Suggested age: 12 months+. Every child is different โ€” serve textures and sizes that match your toddler's chewing skills.

Always seat your toddler upright and stay close while they eat. Cut round foods into small pieces and spread nut butters thinly. Read our toddler food safety guide for more.

Questions parents ask

Is chocolate OK for toddlers?

Unsweetened cocoa is fine in small amounts now and then. It contains a little caffeine, so serve chocolate treats earlier in the day.

Can you taste the avocado in chocolate pudding?

No. The cocoa and banana cover the avocado flavor, and the avocado makes the pudding extra creamy.

How long does avocado pudding keep?

Up to 2 days in the fridge with plastic wrap pressed onto the surface. If the top darkens a little, just stir it in.

Is chocolate avocado pudding gluten-free?

Yes, as written. Check that your cocoa powder and vanilla extract are pure and labeled gluten-free.
