  2. Step 2: Grated zucchini wrapped in a clean striped kitchen towel being squeezed over a bowl to remove water

    2Squeeze out the water

Wrap the grated zucchini in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out as much liquid as you can.

  3. Step 3: Grated zucchini and carrot, an egg, shredded mozzarella and a little whole wheat flour being stirred together in a mixing bowl

    3Mix the batter

In a bowl, mix the zucchini, carrot, egg, flour, mozzarella and garlic powder until combined.

    6Serve with dip

Cool slightly and serve with plain yogurt for dipping.

How to serve by age

9โ€“12 months

Cut fritters into strips that baby can hold, once egg, wheat and dairy have been introduced.

12โ€“24 months

Serve whole small fritters or halves with a yogurt dip.

2โ€“3 years

Serve whole. Toddlers can help grate (with help) and stir the batter.

Allergy & diet swaps

Gluten-free
Use 1/3 cup gluten-free flour blend or chickpea flour instead of whole wheat flour.
Dairy-free
Leave out the mozzarella. The fritters still hold together.
Egg-free
Use a flax egg (1 tbsp ground flaxseed + 3 tbsp water, rested 5 minutes) and add 1 extra tbsp flour.

Tips

  • Squeezing the zucchini well is the secret to fritters that hold together.
  • Bake instead: 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) on a lined tray for 15โ€“18 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Cut into strips for younger eaters.

Storage & safety

Storage: Fridge: 3 days. Freezer: 2 months. Reheat in a pan or oven until hot.

Suggested age: 9 months+. Every child is different โ€” serve textures and sizes that match your toddler's chewing skills.

Always seat your toddler upright and stay close while they eat. Cut round foods into small pieces and spread nut butters thinly. Read our toddler food safety guide for more.

Questions parents ask

Why are my zucchini fritters soggy?

The zucchini still has too much water. Squeeze it hard in a clean towel before mixing, and cook over medium heat so the centers set.

Can babies eat zucchini fritters?

Yes, from about 9 months once egg, wheat and dairy have been introduced. Cut them into strips for easy holding.

Can I freeze zucchini fritters?

Yes. Freeze cooled fritters on a tray, then bag them for up to 2 months. Reheat in a pan or a 375ยฐF (190ยฐC) oven.

Can I bake the fritters instead of frying?

Yes. Bake on a lined tray at 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) for 15โ€“18 minutes, flipping halfway.
